When people ask me what I do as a lawyer I resist the urge to give them a long detailed explanation of everything that I do, although I concentrate in the fields of personal injury law, wills and estate litigation, commercial litigation and corporate work. Instead, I prefer to respond by saying “I help people make choices.”
Life is filled with choices to make and nowhere is that seen more dramatically than in the practice of law.
For example, a client might want to know: Should I sue in state court or federal court? Should I accept or reject a settlement offer? Should I go to trial or agree to mediate or arbitrate the dispute? Should I have a simple will or a complex will and/or a trust? Should I create a corporation or a limited company for my new business? Should I cut my losses?
Oftentime the choices are not readily apparent to the client. However, a good lawyer will certainly be aware of the many choices that will need to be made during the course of the representation and clearly explain the choices of the client so that the client is actively involved in the decision-making process. That is part of being an attorney and counselor at law.
If you have a legal matter that requires assistance, give me a call. Let me help you make the right choices.
H. Joel Weintraub concentrates on Civil Litigation. A good portion of that includes Personal Injury Law and injuries arising out of auto accidents.
