During the warmer months, more motorcycles are on the road.
Remember to exercise caution around motorcyclists. What would be a simple fender bender between two cars could be a tragic loss between a car and a motorcyclist. Below, we’ve provided a few tips for safely driving around motorcycles.
When making left turns, look for traffic… Then look AGAIN for bikers!
Vehicles turning in front of motorcycles is the number one cause of fatal accidents for motorcycle riders.
Let them Swerve
Leave bikers as much space as possible. There are many things bikers need to swerve for, including potholes, road kill, oil spots, etc. Give them as much room as possible. If you want to pass them, do it quickly.
Stay back
When riding behind a motorcycle, increase your following distance. If you rear end another car, the other driver is well-protected. If you rear-end a motorcycle, the results could be tragic.
Make a Conscious Note
Just like you look out for children in your neighborhood, make a conscious effort to look out for bikers. Share the road and be a safe driver.
