Virginia’s crash records put Virginia Beach at 5,272 collisions in 2024, with 2,618 people injured and 24 killed — the heaviest concentration in the Commonwealth. The busiest single location was Independence Boulevard where it meets I-264, at roughly 250 crashes in a year, with Independence Boulevard at Virginia Beach Boulevard next at about 150. Speeding sat behind a substantial share of the total.
Off the interstate, Rosemont Road gathers them, particularly where it crosses Holland Road, Plaza Trail, and Lynnhaven Parkway. Virginia Beach Boulevard carries heavy volume past commercial entrances with constant turning traffic. And the timing runs against expectation: close to half of the city’s collisions fall between midday and six in the evening rather than in a morning commute.
Oceana and Little Creek give this city a shift pattern few others have, which means a Virginia Beach file frequently involves a service member, a military insurer, and treatment running partly through a base facility. None of that is out of the ordinary here. It is a good deal of the caseload.
