On Saturday, October 6th, The Decker Law Firm joined the American Diabetes Association in Virginia Beach for “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes,” the signature fundraising walk of the American Diabetes Association.
Overall, there were 103 teams and 1,500 participants, raising over $166,000 to fight Diabetes. A total of 27 participants represented the Decker Law Firm team.
For several years, “Uncle” Pete Decker, Jr. and Barbara Ciara emceed the event together. Pete would always bring a trashcan and urge attendees to put their extra cash in it to help the American Diabetes Association a little more.
Cash Can for Diabetes WalkThe trashcan made another appearance this year—this time with a drawing of Uncle Pete on the front. Barbara Ciara presented Pete Decker III with a commemorative plaque, honoring Uncle Pete’s many years of service to the event. After the presentation, Pete Decker III had Martin Thomas and George Neskis come to the front of the audience. They threw the first cash donations in the trashcan, and got the ball rolling for a very successful day of fundraising.
It was a beautiful day and a great way for the firm to come together for such an important cause.
The event has been taking place for more than 20 years and has raised more than $150,000,000. The money raised will go towards finding a cure for diabetes, hopefully in our lifetime.
