In January 2012, the late Pete Decker, Jr. tasked Earlene Coyner and the rest of the local St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital committee with throwing a “helluva party” for a fundraising gala celebrating his 50 years of service to St. Jude. Uncle Pete did not live to see the November 2012 event at the Sheraton Waterside but this celebration of his life and his life’s passion, St. Jude, would have made him very proud. That’s why Peter Decker, III was thrilled recently to present Coyner with the solid gold medallion of St. Jude.
The medallion is given to honor the select few who have given enormous amounts of resources to raise money for the kids of St. Jude. Coyner was instrumental in putting together last year’s gala and received the medallion in recognition of her efforts. She says, “I think he wanted everyone who supported him to come together one more time to support St. Jude, and to share great memories.” Thank you, Earlene Coyner, for one helluva party.
