We are incredibly honored and humbled to announce that the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center has been renamed in honor of Peter Decker, Jr. The new name of the recognizable Norfolk landmark will be: the Peter G. Decker Jr. Half Moone Center. Mayor Paul Fraim announced the change yesterday at a small ceremony where he presented a plaque to Bess Decker commemorating Pete and his contributions to Norfolk.
The Virginian Pilot has run two news stories about the renaming, one about the change itself, and another in depth article titled “About the man who made mermaids the mascot of Norfolk.”
