Led by Decker Law’s very own attorney, Michelle Parker, members of the James Kent Inn of Court joined thousands of volunteers to make the 29th Annual FM99 and 106.9 The Fox Mayflower Marathon a record-breaking success for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.
Despite the cold and rain, the legal professionals spent two hours on Saturday, November 22nd at the Lynnhaven Mall collection site, one of three locations across the region. There, Michelle and other volunteers processed approximately 25 turkeys and thousands of pounds of canned goods, food staples, toiletries, and paper products from individual donors and car clubs.
“As attorneys, we strive daily to positively impact the lives of our clients,” said Michelle Parker. “This volunteer opportunity allowed us to give back to our community and to positively impact the lives of others in our community who we otherwise couldn’t.”
The final results exceeded all expectations. Over the three-day weekend, the combined effort provided an amazing 1,007,000 meals for local families. The Lynnhaven Mall and Suffolk Kroger Marketplace locations alone provided 750,000 meals.
The food collected was immediately distributed to partner agencies the following Monday and Tuesday, ensuring families had meals for Thanksgiving Day and helped to create an instant and meaningful impact throughout Southeastern Virginia.
